Jared Polis for Congress

Jared Polis, the incoming representative for Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, was appointed Wednesday by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as the freshman representative on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.

Polis said the assignment allows him to join 53 of his Democratic colleagues in deciding which members of the House get to sit on which committees in the 111th Congress, which convenes in January.

“It puts me in a strong position to advocate for Colorado and move the Congress in a progressive direction,” Polis said Wednesday.

Polis is on Capitol Hill this week for an orientation for all freshman members of Congress.

In their endorsement of Jared, the Vail Daily writes "A lot of politicians can call themselves an “education candidate,” but Polis truly fits the bill, having chaired the Colorado board of education and used the fortune he made as an Internet entrepreneur to start a series of charter schools for immigrants trying to learn English."

The Summit Daily writes, "With his sharp mind, record of success in business and education and obvious passion for the position, we believe he's the best choice for this seat in the U.S. House of Representatives."
